Volker Koch will become the acting Nuclear Science Division Director, effective February 1st, 2021. Barbara Jacak will be stepping down, to focus on research and teaching.
Spencer Klein has been named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), “For distinguished contributions in the interface of astrophysics, nuclear physics, and particle physics, including neutrino astrophysics and ultra-peripheral collisions of heavy ions.”
The JETSCAPE collaboration, with leadership by members of the NSD, has received a large allocation of supercomputing resources under the XSEDE program of the National Science Foundation. This award will be used to carry out detailed calculations of jet interactions in the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) and their comparison to extensive experimental data from the heavy-ion programs at RHIC and the LHC, using Bayesian Inference analysis. The proposal was led by NSDs Peter Jacobs (grant PI) , Xin-Nian Wang (co-PI) and James Mulligan.
Tom Gallant received a service pin honoring him for 20 years of service to the Laboratory.
