NSD scientist Erich Leistenschneider is quoted in this CERN Press release about a sophisticated new electrostatic trap at CERN’s ISOLDE facility that could help researchers probe the chemical reactivity of superheavy elements – the rarest and least understood elements. Their properties could “blur the boundaries of the periodic table.” Erich is the 2nd lead author of this study, which appeared in Nature Communications on November 3rd. Related work on the chemical properties of superheavy elements is happening at LBNL’s 88-Inch Cyclotron. Read the CERN Press Release and the Nature Communications publication
