A distinguished nuclear physicist, Paul currently serves as the Program Head for NSD’s Low-Energy Nuclear Physics Program. As GRETA Project Director, Paul led the team which delivered the GRETA project on budget and ahead of schedule, an impressive feat recognized by a 2025 Director’s Award. Last year, GRETA was delivered to the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) at Michigan State University, where it is currently undergoing benchmark testing.

Paul joined Berkeley Lab’s NSD in 1992 as a Divisional Fellow; he was promoted to Senior Scientist in 1997 and elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2013. Paul has served the Division and the Lab in a variety of roles, including as Nuclear Structure Group Leader (1997-2006), Deputy Division Director (2006-08), and since 2009 as Program Head. He was a member of the Project Management Advisory Board for science and engineering projects and currently serves on the Laboratory Staff Committee.
