We are pleased to recognize that Peter Jacobs, a Senior Scientist in the NSD Relativistic Nuclear Collisions Program, has embarked on a one-year PRT leave beginning May 1, 2026. The Professional Research or Teaching (PRT) allows LBNL researchers to spend time in leading research institutions, strengthen existing collaborations, and develop new ones.   This period of focused research is supported by two highly recognized honors in the scientific community: a Royal Society Wolfson Visiting Fellowship and a Humboldt Research Award.

The Humboldt Research Award recognizes Peter’s outstanding lifetime achievements in research and teaching, while the Wolfson Visiting Fellowship—secured through the University of Liverpool—is a major achievement designed to foster international collaboration.

During his PRT leave, Peter will spend six months at the University of Liverpool in the UK and another six months in Germany, split between the GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt and Heidelberg University. These locations are strategic hubs for his primary focus: the measurement of jets and their interaction with the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) within the ALICE experiment at CERN.

By collaborating closely with Liverpool’s experts in simulations and GSI’s leaders in tracking and calibrations, Peter aims to establish new international networks in AI/ML and nuclear physics. His proximity to CERN will also facilitate frequent engagement with the ALICE collaboration.

We congratulate Peter on these exceptional awards and look forward to the breakthroughs this sabbatical will undoubtedly produce.
